I welcome you into my world with open arms and an open heart.
My name is Samantha Lynn, and I am a new mom living in the heart of the city of Chicago. I am very blessed with my family, my lifestyle, and my well-earned successes.
But it wasn’t easy getting here. My life has required me on many occasions to step into a higher self - and to do so with a bravery flag waving over head.
Let’s start from the beginning.
I grew up in a not-so-normal home. I was raised by a struggling single mom of 5 who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when I was in diapers. My parents’ marriage ended in a divorce due to alcoholism and drug abuse very early on. The right choice for my mom also left her in financial hardship. Said simply, we grew up poor. There were times when I had to carry a candle to the bathroom because our electricity was shut off and more often then not we were scraping the bottom of the barrel for food.
Flash forward to my teenage years, I was forced to take on a parental role WAY too fast, and had to do things children shouldn’t have to do for a parent. If you can imagine trying to convince your dad while talking on the phone to flush drugs down the toilet - this was my young adulthood. I was stressed, anxiety-stricken, having panic attacks regularly, and trying to run from my reality through drinking. To make matters trickier, I was also very misdiagnosed by a doctor’s improper prescriptions. Enter anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants here. Maybe they help some people, but they didn’t help me.
So where did I take my life from there? Eventually I hit rock bottom and had to switch gears. I learned by the time I was in my early 20’s that I was on my own. So, I made the decision to turn my life into something worthwhile. Instead of going to the bars I stopped drinking, started volunteering, and worked my ass off. I moved out on my own early while every one else I knew was in college.
I am proud to say that I have climbed the corporate ladder on my own through hard work and dedication. It was all done by blood, sweat and tears…so so many tears.
My life’s flavor has really been to “step up or get stepped on.” Catching a break hasn’t really existed in my world. Bravery became my only stepping stone into a better life.
Present day - just when I thought the hardship was over…
So here I am, being asked to step into my bravery once more. After having my beautiful daughter at the beginning of this year, I had to battle P.P.D. while also heading straight to E.M.D.R. For those of you that are unfamiliar, it’s a trauma therapy. After giving birth, repressed traumatic memories from my early years came filtering back into my consciousness - forcing me to stare them in the face. It’s not my first rodeo conquering internal battles. So with my bravery vest on and my “hero’s journey” cape attached to my back…that’s exactly what I did. “Let the healing begin” has at this point been my tag line to an almost comical degree.
My life has been blessed being required to be brave on so many occasions. Through that, I have learned a heightened sense of spiritual enlightenment and a whole list of coping mechanisms. The wisdom I have gained and knowledge I have attained is due to my life’s journey. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
After all of this…all I can think of is how I can help others. Who better than a woman who has been through hell and back herself to help other women learn to become more brave, live their lives fearlessly and choose to rise above.
Co-creating a new chapter…
One of the hardest lessons for me to learn throughout my years has been to trust the universe. In fact, looking back throughout my journey it has always been during the faithful times when I have allowed myself to lean on the Universe’s guidance that my life has flowed in a much more beautiful and miraculous way. I believe there is a big Universal force guiding us, helping us, and offering support to us daily. Call it God, spirit guide, whatever name you would like to put to it. It’s there. For my next chapter I intend on living it in full partnership with this loving guidance. When you learn to surrender to a higher self, that’s when the magic happens.
On my new journey as a new mom, vegan nutritionist, holistic advocate, and spiritual seeker, I choose to allow this chapter to be in co-creation with the Universal flow of life.
To all of my guides both spiritual and physical - thank you for being my guiding light. Thank you for your love, thank you for your guidance.
This is for you, yes you reading this right now.. To the woman who needs healing. To the woman who is ready to rise up. To those of you who are tired of accepting life as it is and are ready to step into your own feminine greatness…”The Brave Blonde” is dedicated to you.
I am here to help you rise. I am here to help you find a way. My intention behind this blog is to allow you safe space to grow, to learn, and to be inspired.
May the Universe guide you here and allow you to rise into your heart’s desires. May you find and discover the life of your dreams by learning to first discover a brave new you inside.
May you find community, support, and a love here unlike any other.
My belief is in you….I believe that everyone has the right to live the life of their dreams. I believe everyone has the capability of doing so. It takes honesty to understand what’s hold you back. It takes bravery to face your limitations in the face to move forward, and it takes tenacity and perseverance to say “I deserve more so that’s what I chose.”
Without the support systems I have been blessed with in my life I would not have made “The Brave Blonde” what it is today; nor would I have had the courage to create it.
My good and very dear friends Chanla Chou (@chanla.chou.cosmetics) and Murisa Dugic (@wkend_housewife), thank you for being my cheerleaders and my motivators.
To my little sister, thank you for believing this could make a difference, and also for being my photographer.
Lastly, to my mom….she always told me that whatever I set my mind to I seem to create into existence. Thank you for pointing out my magic and always believing in me.
